Personal development motivation can be hard - but relax!

Lacking personal development motivation? Finding it hard to stay focused and positive? Motivation can be really hard, but there are tools to help you; personal development strategies, sample plans, motivational quotes, books and affirmations to assist you. Above all, stay relaxed, because stressful thoughts and actions only make things worse.

If you have lost track of your personal development motivation and feel stuck, it is time to take a step back and relax. Maybe you are trying too hard to achieve results?

It is an assumption of mine that when we feel stuck and lack personal development motivation, we need a break from things. Although setting and achieving goals is great and fulfilling, we sometimes try so hard to reach the next level of success (whatever success means to you...), that we are unable to see the wood for the trees. If we rarely enjoy the present moment, or express gratitude over what we already are, do and have, it is easy to lose perspective and always feel discontented.

So what can you do when you lack personal development motivation?

  • In some cases it is just a matter of taking a short break;
    Take a long walk and enjoy Mother Nature´s peace and healing effect on your mind and senses. Nature does not care about the definition of success, personal development journals, sample personal development plans, success secrets or goal setting theory and positive thinking qoutes. It just is. So although I am an avid spokesman for personal development (obviously), I think it is essential to "be in this world, but not of this world". The simple reason is that we do not really need that much to live a happy life. Simplify! Simplify! Simplify! as Henry David Thoreau said. He also summarized his reasons for choosing a simple life in Walden saying "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." I also believe that Nature is the ultimate teacher and a fantastic source of inspiration. And once we´re inspired, we just need to take action. And that is where motivation comes in.
  • Your personal "whys"
    Personal development motivation has tight connections to your "whys"; your reasons for wanting a specific result. If you know why you engage in a particular thing, then you are self-motivated mostly. Every time you lack motivation, you think about your reasons, objectives and motives and your personal development motivation usually returns quickly. To enforce it even further, you use a vision board with your desired outcome or post other pictures around yourself to remind you of "why" you want to live a more fulfilling life, have more time freedom, enjoy great health, improve your relationships, go on vacation or any number of things that are specific to your life.
  • Meet inspiring people to pump up your personal development motivation level
    There is nothing like the real thing! Meeting with people who are uplifting, inspiring, full of life, full of positive energy and creative thinking "out of the box" is like an injection of personal development motivation. If you are lucky, you have friends like that. If you feel great when you´re together, then they are good for you. If, on the other hand, they have a depressing effect on you, make you tired, drained or upset every time you meet, they are probably energy thieves. They thrive on your energy and do not care if you suffer from it. They might even tell you frequently that they do, say or act in this way "for your own good". Avoid them. And focus on the heavenly people who lift up your spirits and motivate you.
  • Try to be an uplifting and inspiring person yourself. Your personality will attract positive people into your life. If you have no motivational or inspiring people around, it is a good idea to look for an event with a positive message. There are many great motivational speakers nowadays; Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Les Brown, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Wayne Dyer, Byron Katie and many, many others. Just remember that the motivation you get from an event has a "best before date", it is fresh and does not last forever. Personal development motivation needs to be renewed whenever necessary. Do not rely on one "life changing event". As you return back home, the rest is up to you. That is why it is so important to build up a strong conviction and mind from the inside and out.
  • Surround yourself with great books for personal development motivation. There are hundreds of highly inspirational personal development authors. On this site I recommend some of the very best in the entire personal development industry; Wayne Dyer, Anthony Robbins, Carlos Castaneda, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill, Byron Katie, Robert Kiyosaki and many other great personal growth teachers and mentors. If your motivation is down, it often helps to just read uplifting, inspirational and motivational advice and stories. In that way I really believe that personal development motivation grows. Additionally, most authors point out the importance of taking action. It is not enough to just get motivated, but the motivation ought to result in actions too. If three cats sit on a roof and one of them decide to jump, how many remain? The answer is... three. Only because one decided to jump, does not mean it did jump. A decision has to be followed by action too.

    Please use any information, resource or tool on this site for that purpose. Also use it as your reliable friend whenever you need that extra injection of personal development motivation. I wish you all the best.
